Recently a bunch of subcontractors for Transco (the company responsible for the gas infrastructure in the UK) dug up our street and spent a couple of weeks working on the gas mains before filling in the holes and departing last week.
Yesterday another bunch of subcontractors rolled up, this time for some water company or other. They proceeded to cone off a big section of the street and started to dig – including some of the freshly laid tarmac from the gas works.
This is such a cliché. Am I the only person who thinks this is a stupid and inefficient waste of everyone’s time and resources? Would it be too much for someone (Bristol City Council?) to co-ordinate this kind of work, so that at least the companies involved could work together where they will be doing similiar work so close in time? After all, it just requires a bit of communication and forward planning.
