Fair and Balanced
I feel I have to join in with this little story doing the rounds this week:
The Fox News Channel has sued political satirist Al Franken to stop him from using the words “fair and balanced” in the title of his new book, scheduled to publish next month. The suit claims that the subtitle is “likely to cause confusion among the public about whether Fox News has authorized or endorsed the book and about whether Franken is affiliated with FNC.” Good lord.
Via lots of places, including Making Light, Charlie’s Fair and Balanced Diary, and Boing Boing.
Surely this is all beside the point – given that Fox News use this as a slogan and there seems to be some suggestion in general that they are rather unbalanced, shouldn’t someone be suing them under the Trades Description Act?
