Given the impending life changes (more on this to come), I’ve been feeling a bit reflective lately. I’ve just pulled out of a drawer a selection of old handwritten journals of mine, mostly dating back between five and two and a half years ago, when Pol and I were travelling.
Flicking through them, I am reminded as to why I thought it a good idea to keep them in the first place – there’s so much you forget. That’s one of the reasons I began this blog, too, as a more up to date, public form of diary.
Here’s something I just read which seems vaguely topical given that over the pond the long, slow, utterly tedious and predictable buildup to the next election has already begun:
Thursday 16th November 2000
You know I don’t think that I’ve once mentioned the rather drawn-out and farcical election taking place in the US in this journal. I wonder what will happen. At the end of the day both Bush and Gore aren’t exactly who I’d want as “leader of the West” (or whatever) but gimme Gore over Bush any day.
Oh, how little did we know back then.
Maybe I’ll put up a few more posts like this one. After all, the journals won’t last forever – I always meant to type them up for backup purposes. Maybe the blog can help me out with that task.
